a. NEW: Athletic Union Officer by-election
This election had been planned to run online, but the one candidate who nominated themselves has now withdrawn, so it will instead be run at this meeting of Union Council. You can find out more about the role by reading the Oppurtunity Profile, or email aupres@soton.ac.uk with any questions.
If you want to run, you’ll need to come along and give a 2-minute speech on why you think you should be elected. If you can’t make the meeting, you can send a short manifesto (200 words maximum) which will be read out for you. The position will run from Monday 8th December to the end of the academic year. If you have any questions about the election, please email democracy@susu.org.
b. Appointment of Returning Officer
c. Spring Elections Working Group
A Working Group is to be established to oversee the administration of the 2015 Spring Election. In addition to the Returning Officer, the Deputy Returning Officer (Megan Downing) and another member of Democracy Zone Committee (to be confirmed), there are three Union Councillors, selected at random from an opt-in pool.
If you're sure that you're not going to be running (or being part of a campaign team) for any position up for election in the Spring (Sabbatical Officers, Student Leaders, Union Councillors or Student Trustees), then you can opt-in - please email democracy@susu.org. We will email Councillors to confirm the deadline for opt-ins, which is likely to be mid-January.
d. Sabbatical Officer Term Limits Working Group
A Working Group is to be established to oversee a project on Sabbatical Officer Term Limits (whether Sabbs should be able to run for more than one term). In addition to Megan Downing (VP DCI), and Jade Head and Emily Shepherd (who brought the idea), the Group is to be composed of:
- 1 x impartial student
- 2 x students who have declared that they are for proposing a limit
- 2 x students who have declared that they are against proposing a limit
Students should put themselves forward at this point; in the event of there being more interested students than places available, an election will be held. For more information, see the minutes of the meeting of Democracy Zone Committee on 14th November 2014.
