SUStrings (String Orchestra)

SUStrings is a friendly and active string orchestra which was founded to provide string musicians the opportunity to play and explore the extensive and varied repertoire for string orchestra. There are no auditions and anyone who plays* the violin, viola, cello or double bass to around Grade 5 standard or above is welcome. We rehearse weekly and perform at least one concert per term and one tour per academic year. Rehearsals: Every Monday 7:30-9:30pm Building 28/1017 To keep up to date with what's going on like SUStrings on FB and follow us on Instagram *Harpists are welcome to come as well but majority of pieces won't have a specific part but you can still join and play along!

Membership Information

These are the current membership fees offered by SUStrings (String Orchestra), although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.

Informal and relaxed, SUStrings is where a string player can come and enjoy playing, with great company and without the pressure of auditions! The membership fee goes towards, hiring music, booking concert venues, the conductors fee etc. and also the general running of the orchestra itself - especially the biscuit costs!
Semester 1 Membership£15.0023/09/2024 - 25/01/2025This membership is intended for intended for individuals who are unable to continue playing with us in the second semester, or individuals who may financially struggle with a single larger payment. Please contact our treasurer (Niko, nat1n21@soton.ac.uk) if you have any other reason for needing this membership, and we will be happy to discuss this with you!
