Southampton Robotics Outreach
SRO is a group of students who are enthusiastic about getting young people involved in Robotics, Computing, Electronics and STEM.
At Southampton Robotics Outreach, we organise robotics events to inspire and promote Engineering and Computer Science. Things we do:
- Play with expensive robot hardware
- Build industry-standard hardware and software
- Run big competitions & events
- Teach & inspire students interested in STEM
The highlight of our year is the Computing, Electronics and Robotics Summer School in August. It's a 5-day residential robotics course where 16 teams of 6th form students learn how to build and compete a robot all within the week.
We also run workshops for children as young as 8 using a variety of robot types. Things we've done in the past:
- A workshop at the National Scout Rifle Shooting Championships using our summer school demo robots
- Teaching Winchester cubs to make Lego robots follow a path along a table
- A drop-in robotics stand in Westquay shopping centre
Everyone is welcome in our robotics community. No matter if you’ve never seen a robot, or if you have built a functioning 3D printer, come and join in! We're on Discord: https://discord.gg/hfjQ3kqwXc
We hold weekly sessions at 18:00 on Wednesdays in B32/3077, starting after welcome week, and usually go to the pub for dinner afterwards. We are a friendly bunch - come along and say hello!
