Southampton Swing Dancers
We are a new society for lindy hop at the University of Southampton. Lindy hop is a fun and stylish partner dance with great swing music. Join us and learn cool moves, meet lovely people and enjoy the dance floor
WHAT IS SWING DANCE?
Swing dance is a social dance that originated in Harlem in the 1920s-40s. It is an improvised, lively coupled dance to jazz music. It is an amazing dance and a wonderful community of people who help you push yourself as you learn new moves and techniques and become comfortable with the joy of social dancing.
WEEKLY CLASSES AT UNI
Every Thursday at The Cube (SUSU building) during term-time: Beginners Level Class: 6:30pm-7:45pm Improvers: 8:pm-9:15pm. First class October 10th 2024. Membership is free! Sign up for membership online on our SUSU membership page. Each class is £5 for student members and £9 for non-members. But you can also buy 5 and 10 lesson packages which are discounted! Come along to find out more!
Beginners lessons are suitable for those who have never danced lindy hop or any dance at all, our lessons are built on simple footwork and technique that will gradually progress as the semester continues.
Intermediate lessons are targeted to those who have already been swing dancing for a semester!

We also host our own social dances and solo jazz workshops throughout the year, and have guest dance teachers giving specialised lessons!
