Barbarians
Call us butter because we're on a roll...don't miss out.
Barbarians RFC are the most active, fun, and friendly team in the university.
Being the only IM team within the university that has a professional coach, we are the team to join if you’re looking for guaranteed matches and professional training. We play in both the University IM league and Men’s Hampshire Leagues, thanks to our close connection with a local club, Locksheath Pumas. This amazing partnership is how we are able to guarantee game time and coaching.
We have been lucky enough in the last year to play matches in Guernsey and The Isle of Wight, with travel paid for by the RFU. These matches are incredible experiences that we want to bring to as many people as possible at university.
Our members who played with Locksheath Pumas last season secured a league promotion, so we have an exciting year ahead of us as we take on bigger challenges. We were also asked to play in Varsity in place of the BUCS University rugby team, and we aim to take to the fields again next year.
We organise weekly socials, a mix of big, inter-society events, and smaller, chilled socials, so there will always be something to float your boat. We are keen to stamp out the stereotype associated with university rugby. We do not host initiations in an effort to get away from this reputation.
