Why vote for Toby?

I have loved my time at Southampton, spending years in roles like this one. In a world that is becoming much more scary for a lot of people, it has never been more critical for you to choose the right person for this role. You need your sabbs to fight exclusion and discrimination from a place of love. Because everyone should love their time at Southampton as much as I have.

What will I do?

  • Strengthen support for survivors of abuse/assault — as well as improving systems to support the survivor, I will introduce systems to protect and safeguard people from the offender, and encourage proactivity from staff and students to aid survivors in reporting during difficult times
  • Address the unacceptable response times of the mental health support systems — both the SUSU-led and the university-led services. I will introduce a one staff for one student policy to reduce logistic complexity and ease anxiety by providing consistency.
  • End the iSolutions deadnaming and misgendering problem — collaborate to finally solve this harmful database management failure.
  • Break barriers to education support — help undiagnosed students applying for special considerations, AERs and extensions and promote awareness of systems in place (like SSRs)
  • Create permanent feedback forms to ask how I can better represent you — I will keep my campaign Instagram public so you can hold me accountable to my promises
  • Introduce permanent anonymous module and society accessibility feedback forms — one of the biggest obstacles to inclusivity is that people are afraid to speak up when activities exclude them
  • Rethink mandatory society welfare training — societies are fundamentally not equipped to deal with the welfare problems that arise within them. Among other things, I want to strengthen training on how to handle issues of sexual misconduct
  • Create student support pages for LGBTQ+, neurodiversity, disability, race
  • Continue creating and improving support for students struggling with the Cost of Living Crisis
  • Hold the University accountable for ensuring accessible spaces — e.g., continuing work on sensory spaces
  • Lobby University for sufficient funding on gender expression, food provision, and mental health
  • Enforce regulations to stop deadnaming and misgendering in academic environments
  • Introduce sustainable diet campaigns at the same time as improving sustainable food options (like vegan options) to simultaneously address environmental attitudes and behaviour
  • Ensure diverse food options for all diets (dietary restrictions and dietary choices)
  • Encourage societies to participate more in awareness weeks/months
  • Support students during transitions into, through and out of university — especially in cases of difficult home life and adjustment to living away from home – improve resources for financial support of students in university and transitioning out of university
  • Fight trans exclusion from facilities and lobby for gender neutral facilities throughout the university
  • Promote inclusive sports, exercise and fitness activities
  • Campaign to reduce stigma around mental health
  • Ensure students on international campuses can access the same services and opportunities
  • Listen to your feedback to improve how I represent you
