Why vote for Syd?

Students should enjoy their time at university by engaging in societies, the community, and events held throughout the year. In addition to academic studies, university should be a positive and enriching environment. I believe that I am the person to encourage students to benefit from the whole experience. I will encourage this by creating and providing events that collaborate with both societies associated with university, SUSU and communities in the local Southampton area. An example of this would be holding fund-raisers for local groups and charities.

Communication between the university staff, student body and local community is an important aspect for maximising the student experience and I will aim to create an environment that would connect these groups and improve the overall cohesiveness.

I will be a voice for under-represented students and societies within the university as well as providing an environment where societies and students feel comfortable and safe to voice their opinions, concerns and feedback to an individual who will listen and take on challenges where needed. I will also be a voice for students regarding roles and responsibilities that I would take on, while also providing a voice for societies within the wider community. I will present an active role in promoting what I aim to do, how I would present tasks and how I would complete tasks going forward. Having been a student for the past three years, I am passionate about this as I understand the stresses individuals face throughout their time at university, as well as how smaller societies and groups get overlooked. I will work alongside these groups to ensure that they will be heard.

During my time at university, I have been part of and worked with multiple societies. In two of these societies I have held different committee roles, including Welfare Officer and Events Manager. I have also been a student representative for the last two years. These roles have provided me with the opportunity and experience to create and plan events, while also engaging with individuals to be able to create a fun and engaging environment. They have also provided me with the experience I need to be able to communicate and work with others who want to get the most out of their university life. I aim to create a setting for students to gain memorable experiences.

Voting for me would mean supporting societies and communities, creating an environment where students can thrive. I will be a voice for students and their concerns, providing engaging events that will bring people together. I will be a friendly face and advocate, supporting students throughout their time at university.
