Why vote for Lucy?
I’m running to be your next SUSU President, and I want to make a real, lasting difference for every student. I care about the future of SUSU and how it can better serve all of us. I’ve got five key goals I’d like to achieve, and I need your support to make them happen.
First, I want to repair the relationship between SUSU and the student body. It’s clear that trust between students and the union has been strained in recent years, and that’s not okay! I’ll be transparent, approachable, and work hard to rebuild that trust. I plan to hold regular forums to hear your concerns and act on them – whether it's a new policy or just making sure your voices are heard in the decisions that affect you.
Sustainability is something that’s incredibly important to me, and I believe SUSU can and should set an example for the university when it comes to environmental responsibility. Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and as students, we need to make sure we’re doing everything we can. I will push for more sustainable practices across SUSU, including reducing waste, encouraging the use of renewable energy, and promoting greener transportation options. I’ll also advocate for more sustainability-focused events and partnerships with local businesses to help reduce our carbon footprint.
I’m also passionate about making sure students from our satellite campuses feel just as included as those on Highfield. Many students at these campuses feel disconnected from the wider university community, and that’s not right. I’ll work to ensure these students have equal access to events, support, and opportunities. This means providing more transportation options, as well as improving communication between satellite campuses and SUSU so no student feels left behind.
The SUSU Safe initiative has done some great work, but I believe it can go further. This initiative plays a crucial role in keeping us safe during nights out, but it could be more accessible and better promoted. I’ll work to improve awareness of the service, ensuring all students know how to access it. Additionally, I’ll push to expand the initiative, creating more resources for students who need support, through training, outreach, and collaborations with external organisations.
Finally, I am committed to working with the university to ensure more wheelchair-accessible spaces across campus. Accessibility is something that is often overlooked, and it’s vital that all students can navigate the campus easily. I will work to identify areas where improvements can be made, such as better ramps, lifts, and accessible toilets. Every student, no matter their physical ability, should have the freedom to move around campus without any barriers.
If elected, I will be your voice. I will listen to your concerns, fight for what’s important to you, and make sure SUSU works for everyone. These aren’t just ideas – they’re things I’m committed to achieving, and I know that together, we can make them a reality.
Don’t be a goose and vote for Luce!
