Why vote for Kai McRae?
I am in the MSc Archaeology (Bioarchaeology) program, and am researching dance from a bioarchaeological and anthropological view. By the time I was 12, I knew I wanted to go into the realm of anthropology and volunteered on an archaeological site. Shortly thereafter, when I was 13-16, I was at an archaeological high school field school during summers gaining experience in archaeological excavations, lithics and ceramics analysis, and floatation methods. I went on to complete my BA in Anthropology as well as Dance and wrote a paper combining bioarchaeology and dance. During spring 2023, I helped my undergraduate head of anthropology with human remains of a few missing persons cases. I am thinking about how to continue my dance bioarchaeology with my dissertation.
I am neurodivergent and queer, and want to continue making these communities feel visible, safe, and accepted. I want to continue making this department a safe and inclusive space for all. I encourage a multidisciplinary approach to be able to research from a new perspective and to achieve a different understanding. This gives a new, more complex approach to aid in creative thought and research. I would like to work with ArchSoc to create some workshop or presentation event to give students the chance to promote sharing ideas and to show the diverse range of thought within the department. I believe encouraging work with the other departments within the school of Humanities could also aid multidisciplinary research and thought, sharing ideas, and showcasing the campus’s diversity.
