Why vote for Yaviin Jayasoma?

I believe I should be elected as the Engineering School President because I have made an active effort to be the lead figure between the Department Presidents, such as my endeavours to collect feedback and improve student experience of MATH1054.

Alongside this, I have been proactive in voicing my opinion on future & current themes and analysing the continuity between years of study, through the School Education Board’s Report. I also spoke out on matters at the School Level Industrial Advisory Board Meeting to maintain alignment between the program LOs and industry expectations, specifically introducing a data-centric and AI-focused theme.

In addition, I am well accustomed to the working structure between the School Presidents and Sabbatical Officers. For example, alongside co-chairing the SSLCs, I ensured to maximise my impact regarding wider program issues impacting several cohorts, by attending regular meetings with Rebecca Would (VP of Education).

I am well suited for this position, as I have extensive experience as the point of contact between different bodies. Alongside my tenure as the Mechanical Engineering Department President, I am a Team Leader for Charitable Organisation ‘Play Action International’, the President of the ‘Engineers Without Borders Southampton’ Chapter and a Student Champion for ‘Engineers Without Borders UK’.

Through these positions, I have the ambition to spearhead and form a strong working relationship between Academic and Societal Presidents, to enhance the impact SUSU representatives have. Therefore, due to my experience and aspirations, I am determined to take on the responsibility of Engineering School President.
