Why vote for Tawshipa Jarin?
Hello,
I am Tawshipa Jarin, an Engineering Foundation Year student, and I am running to be your International Officer.
I am an international student from Bangladesh. So, I understand firsthand the challenges and rewards of studying abroad. University life is an important journey full of opportunities for growth, exploration, and self-discovery. Hence, I am deeply committed to making your university experience fulfilling and enriching. My first year at university has been full of new experiences and meeting and connecting with people from different courses and societies. Next year, I want to expand this range of networking for other international students on campus.
Throughout my time at school, I have held several leadership positions. I was the Deputy College Leader and class prefect for consecutive six years. I am a lover of Physics and Poetry. In addition, I was my debating club's deputy general secretary and currently sit on the University of Southampton Debating Union committee. I have worked with a huge student body with diverse needs. This makes me confident of representing your views and bringing the needed change.
The activities I want to conduct during my tenure include but are not limited to:
- Create a safe sharing space for incoming and returning international and home students to talk about feeling homesick or adjusting to the new environment of the university.
- Arrange combined cultural festivals and food fairs among the societies to represent diverse cultures.
- Invite guest speakers from diverse cultural backgrounds to share their experiences and insights on global issues, leadership, and cross-cultural communication.
- Hold talks and workshops focused on career search strategies such as navigating graduate schemes, exploring employment opportunities, different types of visas for international students etc.
As the International officer, I pledge to:
- Increase networking opportunities among various international student societies to promote collaboration and cultural exchange.
- Actively seek and incorporate international student input into decision-making processes at SUSU and the university
- Advocate for tailored support services, including academic guidance and mental health resources.
As an international student, I understand how difficult it is to adjust to the significant adjustment when starting university. I want to make university a joyful experience for everyone, irrespective of nationality, religion, gender, etc., and ensure this voice doesn’t go unheard.
Vote for me to be your next International Officer; make an impact now!
