Why vote for Kanik Bridgeman-Wilson?
Hi everyone! I’m Kanik. For those who don’t know me, I’m a first-year marine biology student who loves dogs, swimming and fish (especially hammerhead sharks). I wanted to put myself forward for this role because marine biology is something I’ve always been passionate about, as has university. I’ve always dreamed of going to university and now that I’m here I couldn't be happier, but I’ve noticed a lot of issues that not just myself, but that my friends and peers are experiencing too.
I don't want to make random changes that seem good on paper. I want to make changes people want to see. For example, many students see issues with communication between departments such (e.g marine bio + bio). Many on these joint courses have said when contacting lectures, they are unaware of what is occurring in other departments, leading to a lot of difficulty and confusion in what should be relatively simple inquiries.
To combat this, I would create an overview of each course, before emailing it to each lecturer so that they had a basic overview of what their biology students where learning in marine biology for example, along with sharing the contact information of lecturers in different departments, so that they can be contacted and made aware of changes and issues.
This is just one example of what I would like to change on the course, more can be seen on my key points. I hope you will consider me for course president.
