Why vote for Ola Oludipe?
While I could begin by saying "I want to make a change" or "I want to make a difference"... I don't want to waste your time with cliches. I want to be genuine, and I want you to know that I care. University life can be daunting, and the feeling of not belonging can be incredibly isolating - I speak from experience. As your potential VP of Welfare and Community, I have a clear objective: I aim to create a sense of safety and belonging within our community.
Merely raising awareness is not enough, so awareness must be complemented by action, and I am committed to doing so. To achieve this, I have formed various ideas aimed at enhancing inclusivity and support within the community. These strategies include organising international days to celebrate the rich cultures in the school. Additionally, I will organise workshops for men's mental health, ensuring that proper resources and support are provided. When it is Women's History Month, I believe in organising networking events for all subjects and courses so connections can be built. I also want to put in the effort to reinstate the LGBTQ+ society, making it a safe space for Queer People of Colour thereby allowing us to celebrate events such as Pride within the school. I am brimming with ideas and I'm excited to have the opportunity to put them into action. Furthermore, I am dedicated to equality and diversity and want everyone to feel respected. If any issues arise in these aspects, I want you to know that I will advocate for you and stand beside you. My candidacy is not just about empty promises - it is about action and care, and I hope you give me the opportunity to show that!
