As Sabbatical Officer campaigning begins, we want to remind everyone to be kind. SUSU Leadership Elections are an exciting time, filled with debate, discussion, and new ideas—but they should also be rooted in respect.
Standing in an election takes courage. Our candidates are putting themselves forward to represent students and make positive changes at Southampton. Campaigning can be a challenging and high-pressure experience. We want to ensure all candidates feel safe and supported and their well-being is our top priority.
All campaigning must be fair and positive; candidates must be respectful and must not be negative about other candidates. We encourage passionate discussions and constructive debates, but these should always focus on policies, not personal attacks. Criticism should be fair and respectful—bullying, harassment or abuse, whether in person or online, will not be tolerated.
Every comment and action has an impact. Behind every campaign is a real person who deserves to be treated with kindness. If you see or experience any form of abuse or harassment, we urge you to report it.
Let’s make this election a positive and inclusive experience for everyone. Good luck to all our candidates!
