November Highlights

Winter Festival

Thank you to everyone that has joined us at our many events for this year’s Winter Festival, from Bauble and Gingerbread House decorating to roller skating and watching the illuminating light switch on.

We hope everyone was able to make some fantastic memories and enjoy some festive cheer!

Transgender Awareness Week

We ran four events at three different campuses supporting Transgender Awareness Week. The charity Beyond Reflections came in to support a GIAG and have an awareness stand.

International Men’s Day – November 19

From talking about the male role models to sharing a compliment, our Sabbs Lawrence and Conor asked male students to share their experiences this International Men’s Day.

Disability History Month

We celebrated our 2024 Disability History Month Campaign with a range of society led events – such as film nights, beginners sign language sessions and board game nights.

SUSU Sustainability

The Beekeeping Society extracted 96 jars of delicious homegrown honey from the bee hive on Highfield Campus (thanks to the hardworking bees and student beekeepers), and it is now for sale in the SUSU Shop and The Locker.

Southampton Come Dancing

Union Southampton Dance hosted the Southampton Come Dancing event, featuring 15 clubs and 136 performers, many debuting their dance skills. The event raised over £2,000 for breast cancer awareness.

Movember

Fundraising total so far £37,405 by 53 clubs, societies & teams.

Diwali

Over 200 attended the Diwali event, which was organised in collaboration with the Indian Society. We painted diya lamps, made rangoli, lit sparklers together on campus, and danced to Indian music in The Cube.

First Aid

We have now facilitated 3-day first aid courses, six 1-day first aid courses and twenty-two 3-hour first aid courses for our clubs and societies.

Over 250 students have been trained.

SUSU Advice Centre

We are delighted to share some lovely feedback from one of our Advice Centre users…

“Your suggestions were incredibly helpful and have given me a much clearer direction on how to address my situation. Beyond the practical guidance, your understanding and supportive attitude made me feel genuinely cared for, which was both reassuring and heart-warming.” – Current Student, Nov 2024

Representation

We have elected 485 reps to represent you this academic year and have completed training to help them in their roles.

We hosted one of our biggest Rep Social with over 180 reps.

We held our 1st Senate meeting last month.

Student Experience Survey

Thank you to the 3,673 of you that took part in the Autumn Student Experience Survey, sharing your experiences at the university.

Quiz & Chips

A whopping £660 in prizes awarded.

Sabbs

Our Sabbs have been busy this month…

They enjoyed a fantastic evening at this year’s USD Southampton Come Dancing – with Lawrence, Rebecca and Conor taking to the floor.

Their jobs are nothing if not varied – with Rebecca, Lottie and Lawrence donning Christmas attire to help you celebrate at the Christmas Lights Switch On!

We shared a Day in the Life video by Lawrence your Union President.
