We at SUSU are deeply appalled and saddened by the ongoing far-right rioting and violence across the country. This violence, fuelled by racism and Islamophobia, has targeted people of colour, immigrants, their businesses, residences, and mosques nationwide. We vehemently condemn these vile actions and stand in solidarity with all those affected.
In light of an anti-immigration demonstration being held in Southampton at 20:00 today (Wednesday, 7th August), as well as a counter-protest and a Saints home game happening at the same time, we encourage students to avoid any areas where demonstrations are being planned to ensure your safety. If you do need to travel nearby, as a precautionary measure please try not to travel alone where possible.
