This is the last Sabbs Update with our current Sabbatical team as today (Friday 28th June) is their last day here are SUSU. Your new team have started, check out our social media channels for their intro videos. They will start their fortnightly updates as of September ready for the new academic year. But for now we will leave you with their final update:

Ed Brooker, Union President

Hey everyone,

As the academic year comes to an end, I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for making this year truly unforgettable. It’s been an honour to represent you all as Union President.

This year has been full of so many happy memories, from welcoming our freshers to our incredible charity events, sports victories, and everything in between. Whether you were part of a club, society, or simply came along for the ride, your involvement has made a huge difference. It has been an absolute pleasure meeting so many of you and hearing your thoughts, ideas, and concerns. Your feedback has been so valuable in shaping our activities and initiatives.

To our graduating students, congratulations! Your hard work has paid off, and I can’t wait to see the amazing things you’ll achieve in the future. For the returners, I’m excited to see you back in September and continue making Southampton thrive.

Wishing you a great summer and another fantastic year ahead!

For the last time (I’m not crying, you are),

Eddie B

Rebecca Would, VP Education and Democracy

Hi everyone,

Thank you for an incredible first year as VP EdDem. Thank you for every bit of feedback you have given via your reps, your staff and surveys and for everyone who has voted in all our elections throughout the year. Student voice is the most important part about making change at the university (in my opinion!) and I am honoured that I get to continue taking your views forward for another year.

A very quick normal update from me: the past few weeks I have been just as busy as usual with Education Committee, University Senate, Academic Integrity, Education Partnerships, a new strategy meeting with the university on creating a full University of Southampton experience and the Academic Calendar Review; as well as my final catch-ups with your senior reps. Also congrats to Saulė for being May’s Rep of the Month!

To continuing students, I hope you have a relaxing summer, even if you are in internships or work. Please take the breather to spend time with loved ones, and I look forward to welcoming you back in the new academic year. If you are here over summer, either as a PGT student doing your final project or dissertation, on internships with the university, or Medicine and Health Sciences students on various placements, please remember I am still here to take your feedback, and I’d love to hear from you and support you.

To students who are leaving, I wish you the best for everything to come. Please be proud of the work you’ve achieved since you’ve been at Southampton, and I will see many of you at Graduation.

Congratulations!

Amy Moir, VP Activities

Hi friends.

I don’t know where this year has gone but somehow we have reached the last Fortnightly Update for this Sabbatical team. I’ve personally had the most incredible year and that’s down in no small part to all of you, as there would be no Sabbatical Officers without students to represent. To all our Societies of all kinds, thank you so much for letting me be part of your meetings, events, activities, or even just having a chat – I’ve been so lucky to have the opportunity to meet some of you and really have loved every second. To everyone who’s come to me with your worries, concerns, issues – thank you for trusting me, it’s been a big responsibility but above all a privilege to be in the position of looking after your interests. Every interaction at Bunfight, Christmas, Refreshers, Varsity, You Are More Than, the Student Experience Awards, Grad Ball and every other time has really warmed my heart.
Good luck for next year whether graduating or returning, if any of you are looking to get involved in some Charity fun next year then I’m your girl
Leaving you now with Emily for all your Society needs and Lottie for all your Welfare needs, who I’m certain will both do an amazing job.

VP Activities over and out x

Marina Stasi, VP Sports

All good things must come to an end, otherwise, they’d just be ordinary; and this year has been anything but ordinary. Coming from the small island of Cyprus to Southampton four years ago, I never would have imagined that by putting myself out there and running for this role, I would be gifted with an extended family.

Writing my final sabbatical update feels like embarking on an emotional rollercoaster. I am sad to let go of my clubs, excited for new beginnings, and most of all, profoundly grateful for a year of invaluable lessons and personal growth.

Thank you all for trusting me to represent you this year. Thank you to each and every one of you who has dedicated time and effort, sweat and tears and has placed their own milestone in building this wonderful sporting community known as Team Southampton.

For one last time as your VP Sports,

#BleedBurgundy
