Sarah Fergusson, Student Adviser
At the University of Southampton, students’ well-being and safety are top priorities. To ensure that every student has access to the resources they need, the institution offers the “Report and Support” platform. This initiative is designed to empower students, staff, and visitors to report any concerns, from academic issues to incidents of harassment, bullying, or mental health struggles.
The Report and Support system is an easily accessible, confidential online tool that allows users to share incidents or concerns without the need to immediately engage in face-to-face conversations. This flexibility ensures that students can report issues at their own pace and comfort level. Whether it’s a problem with a class, concerns about a colleague’s behaviour, or experiencing a challenging personal situation, the platform provides a safe space to seek help and advice.
The platform is structured to help students in several key areas:
- Harassment and Bullying: If a student feels they are experiencing or witnessing bullying, harassment, or discrimination, they can report the issue and seek support. The university takes these matters seriously, and there are systems in place for both informal and formal resolutions.
- Wellbeing and Mental Health: Sometimes, students just need a safe space to talk about their mental health. Through the Report and Support platform, they can access a wide range of mental health resources and connect with support services for tailored assistance.
- Safety and Security: If a student feels unsafe on or off campus, the platform ensures that their concerns are addressed promptly, with support from the relevant authorities.
The University of Southampton is committed to creating a positive and supportive environment where all students can thrive. By utilising Report and Support, students have a valuable tool to seek assistance when they need it most.
