The University of Southampton has officially started construction on a state-of-the-art teaching and learning building at Highfield Campus.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark E. Smith, alongside SUSU President Lawrence Coomber and Kier Construction Southern’s Managing Director Cheryl Ward, led the groundbreaking ceremony.
Set for completion in 2027, the new building will provide the University’s largest non-faculty space, featuring modern lecture theatres, study areas, seminar rooms, and event spaces. Students will also benefit from a café, cycling facilities, welfare services, and dedicated spaces for wellbeing and reflection.
Lawrence Coomber, President of the Student Union shared his excitement:
“This new teaching and learning building will be a game-changer for students at the University of Southampton. It will create a dynamic and inclusive space that supports collaboration, creativity, and academic success. The building will bring much needed extra study space to study. We are thrilled to see the university investing in our future.”
SUSU looks forward to seeing this exciting development take shape and the positive impact it will have on students. To find out more about the groundbreaking ceremony, please take a look at the University’s post here.
