Exams can be a stressful time for any student, but Southampton University understands that some students may face additional challenges that could impact their performance. To ensure all students have a fair opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, the university offers a system for requesting special considerations during exams.
What Are Special Considerations?
A special consideration is an exceptional circumstance outside of a student’s control, that has or will have a negative effect on their performance in a recent or upcoming assessment (including an exam) or on their ability to meet a deadline for submission of an assessment or to sit an exam.
How to Apply for Special Considerations
Students can apply for special considerations by accessing the link below, completing the form and submitting it. This must be done within 5 days of the incident or the exam that has been affected. Applications should be accompanied by evidence of the issue, ie: a letter from your or other professional body confirming that there has been an issue and that your ability to study is affected.
For further information regarding Special Considerations, as well Special Considerations guidance, please follow the links below to the University Student Hub support page, and The Advice Centre web page surrounding Special Considerations.
If you require further support, maybe it is a long-term condition that has flared up, you can get additional support from the University’s Wellbeing Team, accessed through this webpage.
