SUSU February Highlights

Here’s what’s been going on at SUSU in the past month:

LGBTQ History Month

  • We ran 12 events across the month ranging from GIAG Crafternoons to Film Screenings, Coffee Mornings to Talks.

Leadership Elections

  • We had 40 Nominations (up 8% vs 2023) for 11 Roles.
  • Please do look out for Voting in March – your voice really matters!

Events

  • February saw lots of events, including: Kpop, Drag Bingo, Paint & Sip  and our highest event feedback score this year of 4.8/5 Stars Cube in the Cube
  • Our Refreshers event at the beginning of this month saw over 70 Clubs, Societies and external companies visited by over 1000 students. A fantastic event to kick of Term 2!

Sustainability 

  • In partnership with Hampshire Swifts and the University’s Estates department and a fantastic bunch of student volunteers we made 14 new Swift boxes that will be going us around Highfield and Avenue campuses to provide new homes for local Swift colonies.

SUSU Advice Centre

  • The Advice Centre has supported 306 students this month with nearly half of that being academic appeals.
  • Our Advice Centre has handed out 40 food bags to students in need, if you need support please do reach out to them.

Sabbs

  • Clubs of the Month: Women’s Rugby Football Club who held a charity match raised £4621.74 for MNDA. Amazing!!
  • Society of the Month: Southampton University Brass Band (SUBB) 
  • Rep of the Month: Arjun Awasthi, PGR Faculty Officer, Faculty of Social Sciences. 

Activities

  • SUSU Activities Team gave away 150 Pancakes @ WSA for Pancake Day
  • 3 BUCS teams have made it to the Conference Cup Finals: Football – Southampton Men’s 3s, Hockey – Southampton Men’s 4s, Football -Southampton Ladies 1s. Well done everyone and good luck!
  • In no small achievement over 1800 Sports Club members took part and had their photo taken!

And finally…

  • February saw the return of food service to The Bridge and we are delighted with how is going. Peckish on campus pop into The Bridge!
  • Working in collaboration with Wonky Bowl (Enactus) we launched a new soup option to combat food waste and provide students with affordable food.
  • We launched a new food collection point and basics section in The Shop. All products in the basics section are sold at cost price, we don’t make any profit on them.
